Business Continuity Planning Guide for 2015 part 2

Worried about downtime? Build an IT Business Continuity Plan: In our previous post we covered first three steps in our Business Continuity Planning Guide. Here is a quick refresher of the steps:

  1. Business Impact Analysis: Define an differentiate the critical and non-critical functions of your business.
  2. Recovery Time Objectives: Set the duration of acceptable recovery time to have the critical function restored.
  3. Technology Audit: Perform a full technology audit and map your applications and infrastructure to your critical business functions.

The fourth step is to perform a Gap Analysis between your existing technologies and recovery time objectives. This will look into how well your technology can perform a recovery of a lost critical business function. This is useful in setting a realistic expectation of your technology and whether you need to upgrade to speed up your recovery time.

The final step is to perform a budget analysis. Have you aligned your budget to accommodate your business impact analysis, recovery time objectives and existing technology? With your Business Impact Analysis committee you will need to document any gaps between the budget and expectations from different sections of your business. It can be quite the balancing act to ensure everyone’s interests and needs are met this is why we are here to help.

We are experts at testing, reviewing and updating your Business Continuity Plan. Our comprehensive test plan covers your company’s technology, infrastructure, services, critical business functions and personnel involved. The test criteria also involves setting up actual simulations in a safe environment of what could happen in an event of a network disruption. Once the testing is complete we will go through a debriefing process, with your Business Impact Analysis committee, to show you the test results and areas that need your attention.
